Elizabeth Xi Bauer – Auction results: Theodore Ereira-Guyer sells for over three times high estimate.

AMILCAR BUSINESS presents one of the top sales highlights in Phillips’ Wired: Online contemporary art auction, which closed on Thursday, 30th November, 2023.

Yesterday, Summer fruits and the garden turning to night (vii) (2020) by Theodore Ereira-Guyer sold for £33,020, including fees, in Phillips’ Wired sale. Theodore Ereira-Guyer made his auction debut earlier this year in May, with the hammer price over four times the high estimate for the lot sold at Phillips. Progressive Navigation (2015) by Theodore Ereira-Guyer sold for £48,260, including fees, in Phillips’ Wired sale. More information here.

In September 2023, Things withheld, Dawn’s glow (2021) by Theodore Ereira-Guyer was in the top 3 selling lots of Phillips’ Heatwave auction. This work sold for £82,550, including fees, over eight times the high estimate. More information here.

This time a smaller work by the artist was sold at Phillips, compared to the two aforementioned works sold at Phillips, which were approximately three times larger. Ereira-Guyer’s Summer fruits and the garden turning to night (vii) (2020) sold yesterday at Phillips for £33,020, including fees, making it one of the top five highest selling lots of the sale.

In yesterday’s sale, Aboudia’s Untitled (2018) had a hammer price of £40,000. The hammer went down at £35,000 for Rózsa Csibe (Pink Bird) (2022) by Szabolcs Bozó. The final price for Ereira-Guyer’s work, including fees, was £33,020, over three times the high estimate. Other notable artists’ works featured in the Wired sale include Studio Lenca, Thierry Noir, Helmut Newton, Albert Willem, Julian Schnabel, Chris Levine, Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Günther Förg, and Maurizio Cattelan.

Summer fruits and the garden turning to night (vii) is from a series of vibrant etchings by Theodore Ereira-Guyer. Executed in 2020, this work is unique. It is one of the first times the artist introduced such strong colour in his etchings, marking a new direction. Theodore drew inspiration from his travels to Pompeii where he witnessed a number of crumbling frescos as well as objects and people set in stone by the eruption of Vesuvius. This notion of eternal presence is intertwined in his practise, with a lot of his compositions addressing landscapes with particular emphasis on mountains and gardens.
