This acquisition of a jewel of fine watchmaking is further proof of the LVMH Group’s desire to preserve and develop historic know-how, in order to guarantee their transmission and development.
Based in Delémont, in the Swiss Jura, L’Epée 1839 has perpetuated exceptional watchmaking know-how for 185 years, serving creations imagined, developed and produced in-house. Now specializing in clocks, the manufacture is recognized for its unrivaled expertise and its unique creative vision of combining form and function.
Each clock constitutes a real technical feat, integrating major horological complications, such as perpetual calendars, tourbillons, retrograde hand, etc.
Power reserves of up to 8,760 hours, or a full year, can also be offered, making it one of the signatures of the House, as well as an incomparable design and aesthetic, always associated with a poetic or humorous touch. . Finally, each mechanical or design element is used as a creative ornament in which the codes of the object represented intertwine with those of watchmaking.
When it was created by Auguste L’Epée in the 19th century, the company initially specialized in the manufacturing of watch components and was a pioneer in the production of music boxes. It then evolved its activity towards the development of a cutting-edge watchmaking offering, first by producing travel clocks highly appreciated by officers, then during the 20th century by creating exceptional clocks. So many developments that allow the House to distinguish itself through its technical and technological innovations.
The creations of Maison L’Epée 1839 have quickly become real references and are acclaimed in particular by heads of state, ministers and royal families, for whom these objects of art constitute a privileged and heritage gift during official visits.
More recently, L’Epée 1839 has established prestigious and creative partnerships with numerous luxury and watchmaking houses, in order to imagine exceptional pieces. Several projects have thus seen the light of day with Houses of the LVMH Group, including Tiffany, which presented a clock in the shape of the first Formula 1 cars of the 1950s, during the reopening of its historic boutique on 5th Avenue in New York in 2023. The Maison Louis Vuitton also called on the know-how of the artisans of Epée 1839 to create a hot air balloon, an emblem regularly used by the Maison.
The manufacture today brings together a wide range of trades, craftsmen and know-how: more than 80 designers, engineers, watchmakers, mechanics and employees work alongside Arnaud Nicolas, CEO and Creative Director, and will continue to bring their skills, know-how and motivation to all current and future customers.
