From 25 September to 15 November 2026, le19M is travelling from Paris to Shanghai, bringing with it a new international project — la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI — spanning the entire third floor of the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP). For the first time in Shanghai, creatives and artisans from China and France enter into direct dialogue with the resident Maisons d’art of le19M, creating a unique space for dialogue between contemporary creation and exceptional craftsmanship.

An introduction, designed by Studio Adrien GARDÈRE, features the savoir-faire of the 11 resident Maisons d’art of le19M. This opening section is the first to greet visitors, highlighting the gestures, tools, materials, and creative processes that define the Métiers d’art

GONG Yan & ZHANG Lei

A group exhibition, “A Sense of Touch” (触碰 Chù Pèng), presents artisanal creations by the resident Maisons d’art of le19M in dialogue with contemporary creative practices. Curated by an editorial committee comprising four creative voices—GONG Yan, LIN Tianmiao, ZHANG Lei, and Christelle KOCHER—it brings together Chinese and French artisans and artists in dialogue with le19M’s Maisons d’art. 

“A Sense of Touch” welcomes a diverse range of creatives from China and France, including Chinese artists DING Yi, YIN Xiuzhen, SHEN Yuan, WU Jian’an, BI Rongrong, QIAN Lihuai, among others, and French artists Diane CHÉRY, Deborah FISCHER, Mathilde ALBOUY, Julian FARADE, among others, with the full line-up to be unveiled in the coming months. 

Through textiles, embroidery, ceramics, woodcarving, lacquer, bamboo weaving, installations, and more, the exhibition invites visitors to consider “Touch” as a way of knowing, creating, and connecting.

Moving between personal memory, cultural exchange, and material worlds, with the living world, it reveals how craft practices continue to evolve and generate meaning today. 

More than a celebration of heritage, “A Sense of Touch” presents craft as a living practice, where the encounter between hand and matter opens new possibilities for creation.

In resonance with the landscape of contemporary craft unfolded in “A Sense of Touch”, la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI also presents a newly conceived edition of “Lesage. 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration”, developed jointly by Lesage and Émilie HAMMEN. A close partner of CHANEL, Lesage was established in 1924. This exhibition is an invitation to dive into a hundred years of excellence and innovation in embroidery and weaving, contributing to shaping contemporary design, leading to remarkable creative collaborations with some of the greatest names in fashion. The exhibition also serves as a tribute to the long-standing connections between Lesage and China.  

la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI embodies le19M’s constant interest in dialogue between craftmanship and culture, paying tribute to both Chinese and French savoir-faire. French artistic director Éric PILLAULT and Chinese artistic director Ying LEI were entrusted with the design of la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI’s graphic identity, approaching it with a sensibility that combines poetry, form, and graphic precision. 

Alongside the two exhibitions, la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI’s cultural programme further explores the Métiers d’art through talks, hands-on workshops and public guided tours. The details of booking will be announced via le19M’s newly launched official WeChat account and Mini Program.
